EURORAMA
ONE EUROPE OF PEOPLES IN ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM FESTIVALS
Youth, employment & the facts of life
Music, identity & ritual
Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina in collaboration with Trento Film Festival
Trento, 26th – 27th aprile 2009
A selection of the best of European ethnographic film festivals of the last two years – Londra, Budapest, Gottinga, Nuoro, Joensuu, Sibiu, Manchester Belgrado, Lubiana, Mosca, Amsterdam, Parigi, Tartu, Boltaña – for an anthropological outlook on a changing continent. Hence, in spite of the waning categories of Europe’s politics in the XX c., that used to firmly oppose in terms of contrasting values the North and the South, the East and the West of the continent, the year 2000 has opened a perspective on a continent once again united, or at least consolidated even beyond the contrasting influences of the old nation-states. One continent which has recently started to ask itself again questions as to the reasons and the founding themes of its own specific identity within the wider global scenario. EURORAMA puts forward Trento Filmfestival as a central meeting point for a discussion of such themes, following the alert, yet shrewd and unconventional eye of ethnographic film. EURORAMA is thus a roundup of ethnographic documentaries of extraordinary quality, a long voyage from one end of the continent to the other. Common themes to the whole journey, in this III edition, are on the one hand the great dilemmas that the youth are faced with, from school, to employment to pending marital commitments, and on the other hand the common feelings of the awakening of identities, such as they are expressed in music, in festivities and in yearly rituals.
