EURORAMA
ONE EUROPE OF PEOPLES IN ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM FESTIVALS
Identities and places: at the frontiers of Europa from North to South
Traditions, handicraft, music and rites
Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina in collaboration with Trento Film Festival
Trento, 28th – 29th April 2013
Eurorama7 presents 13 films that have participated to some of the most important European festivals of ethnographic cinema in 2011-2012: Tromsø (Norway), Pärnu (Estonia), Sibiu (Romania), Paris (France), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Nuoro (Italy), Torun (Poland), Göttingen (Germany), Rovinj (Croatia), Moscow (Russia), Belgrade (Serbia), Cadca (Slovakia), Tartu (Estonia).
On the first day, the films in the program discuss the complexity of individual and collective identities, dealing with the changes and challenges of the contemporary world. An imaginary journey from north to south, throughout Europe and in the countries of its immediate vicinity, among people and places which are constantly evolving before our eyes: microcosms located in fascinating cities like Tallinn, Budapest, Istanbul and Tel-Aviv, as well as in more remote locations such as the Svalbard islands in the Arctic Ocean or the German colonies of Brazil.
On the second day, the films will lead us into the richness and variety of the folk tradition of our continent, presenting events and phenomena that ethnographic cinema has observed and documented from its very start: ancient crafts in Romania and Macedonia, winter festivals and rituals in Slavonia and Transylvania, folk songs, music and oral traditions in Estonia and Italy.
