EURORAMA
ONE EUROPE OF PEOPLES IN ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM FESTIVALS
A journey through Europe: minorities, shepherds, marginalized people and old traditions
A journey through Europe: metamorphoses and adaptations
Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina in collaboration with Trento Film Festival
Trento, 3rd-4th May 2015
The 14 films of Eurorama 9 festival, curated by the Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina (Museum of Customs and Traditions of the Trentino People), this year accompany the viewer on a journey across the whole European continent. A real tour, which begins in the east in the first day, through Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Italy, and takes to the west the next day, from the Azores to Ireland, Spain, France, Holland and Denmark.
On the first day, the films tell stories that are familiar to the tradition of ethnographic film, stories about people, places and rituals that are situated in the most remote living contexts of our continent. Four of these stories are set in the specific local scenarios of as many European linguistic minorities: Romanians in Ukraine, Hungarians in Slovakia, Croats in Molise and Cimbrians, Ladins and Mòcheni in the Italian Trentino. The second day will address the major anthropological themes of the continuous transformation of the local communities, their places, their material culture, and of the individual strife of adaptation to the needs of alien cultural contexts.
As usual, Eurorama films are selected among winners and runners up of the major European festivals of ethnographic cinema: that is, in two days, the best of current European ethnographic cinema.
